PROCESS
To begin this project, I selected a podcast series that presents a different story in each episode. After deciding upon Campus Files, hosted by Margo Gray, I listened to three episodes, noting recurring symbols and imagery that could drive the visual direction of the covers.
SKETCHES
When sketching, I focused on creating a wide range of compositions to explore different directions. I experimented with the possibilities of collage, abstract, and illustrative approaches. This investigational phase allowed me test multiple styles and consider how each one could shape the tone and layout of the final design.
fonts and color
When selecting fonts, I aimed to create a pairing that felt both academic and contemporary. Because Campus Files presents modern reporting on the hidden histories of well-known institutions, I chose Marion and Source Sans Variable to capture that balance between tradition and relevancy. Marion’s serif structure establishes formality, while Source Sans Variable adds clarity and neutrality.
I chose a color palette of red, navy, and black to emphasize the academic tone of the series. Additionally, red conveys urgency and conflict, navy suggests authority and sophistication, and black reflects secrecy and uncovered truths. Together, the fonts and colors develop a unified visual identity that communicates the tension, seriousness, and investigative nature that is central to each story.
